Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas! By the time this pops up in your RSS feed I will be having our traditional Christmas breakfast with the kids - more of a buffet than a sit down breakfast as I just put Dutch sugar bread, Italian Panettone, German style stollen, raisin bread, assorted packs of fruit juice, and butter on the table and they graze as per their hunger levels until I clear it up. They get to open their gifts before we eat, though I will be caffeinating while we do this as I NEED coffee in the am to function.
I hope you have having a good day whether you celebrate Christmas or not. Though either way I think I can make your day a little brighter. First of all I have added another freebie pattern to this page and secondly this is my 600th post! It wasn't planned to happen today but happen it did and what better day for a celebration?

I thought that 600 posts was worthy of a giveaway and so it shall be! What you can win you can see in the picture below:
All the things.
From top left...
  • A piece of Summer Khaki 36ct (14 threads cm) evenweave of 13 3/4 inches / 35 cm square
  • A piece of hand dyed fabric in oranges and yellows that I hand dyed myself (colour fast dyed with Dylon paints) 18ct 13 x 14 inches / 33 x 35.5 cm
  • 1 skein of Jodyri Designs hand dyed thread November 2015 Ltd. Edition "Dia de los Muertos"
  • 1 skein of Jodyri Designs hand dyed thread June 2017 Ltd. Edition "Scottish Heather"
  • 1 skein of Jodyri Designs hand dyed thread 2017 Year of Special "Year of Colour" thread (you can only get these if you were a member of the fabric club for all 12 months)
  • 2 skeins of Jodyri Designs hand dyed thread 2018 "Year of Colour" thread (you can only get these if you were a member of the fabric club for all 12 months)
  • 1 skein of DMC 3752 (coordinates with the 2018 Year of Fabric thread)
  • 1 skein DMC 3687 (coordinates with the 2017 Year of Fabric thread)
  • 1 skein of DMC variegated thread 126 (coordinates with the 2018 Year of Fabric thread)
  • 4 mini bars of Belgium chocolate
  • A whole load of assorted teas
  • 2 packs of Dutch sandwich sprinkles - because it's fun to eat!
Everything in the box it's being sent in!
Of course for me to give it away I need to know who to give it to! So I'm going to make it easy:
  • Make a comment on this blog post, you don't need to be signed up to comment - anyone can comment.
  • Make the comment before the timer runs out: End of the giveaway timer
  • In your comment tell me about your Christmas - what you usually do or what you did this year.
  • If you don't celebrate Christmas you can still join in! First say you don't celebrate (you don't have to say why). Then tell me about your favourite day of the year - and why it's your favourite day. If it's another religion's special day that's great! I love hearing how other people do things.
  • You can only enter once.
  • Spam comments will be removed ASAP - this includes links to other sites added within the comment (well... ok... I'll accept pictures of your Christmas trees as a link hehe).
  • Don't put your address or email into the comment! You don't want multiple random strangers getting and using them.
  • If you want to tell your friends about it then feel free to do so, but it won't get you more entries into the drawing. I feel that it's fairer to give everyone an equal chance to win.
  • I will draw a winner shortly after New Year's Day starts for me and make a new post saying who the winner is and give further instructions at that point.
I think that just about covers it!

One more thing before the free pattern: For those of you who follow me via Google+ please consider following me another way as Google+ will be stopping soon. You can use an RSS feed, a blog reader, or perhaps you might want to subscribe to email delivery of (usually) the first paragraph of every post - have a look at the bottom of the page for options.

You can find today's pattern here

Have a great day however you spend it and I'll see you in a few days for the NYE Mystery SAL, the giveaway results, or perhaps for one of the other SALs I am hosting next year (if you haven't seen that post do check it out - I'm hosting 10 new SALs next year and they are ALL free!).

  2. 600 posts is awesome. Congrats. Well, my Christmas has been a cozy one with family today. We have eaten beyond what we should have, and enjoyed just being with each other as we stop and think about His birth. We do this every year. Your giveaway looks awesome. I'd love to win. Thank you for the free SAL's (10, my goodness, I can't wait) and for the lovely free pattern today. The tree is very pretty. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a most Happy New Year, too.

This year we had friends come to us for a late lunch and they didn't leave until 11pm. We are going to othr friends for Boxing Day today. Tomorrow we will stay home and try to recover from it all.

  5. You are the most generous person out there. I don’t celebrate Christmas, but did treat myself to a film yesterday (Vice with Christian Bale).
My favourite day of year? I don’t really have a specific favourite, but it’s usually around midsummer, I find that there’s always a day where the weather is gorgeous, the birds and other garden type critters are living it up, the wind is light a breeze and people are kinder and gentler.
I wish you and yours a happy holiday and a brilliant new year!

  6. Thank you for a great giveaway! This year for Christmas we were able to have the whole family at different times so it was less chaotic than usual. The oldest (usually me) opens their gifts first which leaves the grand kids biting at the bit! LOL! But it's all in fun and they usually love helping to open the gifts anyway! Congrats on 600 posts and looking forward to many more - and your new SALs.

    1. You are welcome :) Less chaos is not a bad thing during Christmas! I too get to open mine first (after the stockings), the kids decided they wanted it that way so I'm happy to do what they want, now it's tradition so it's good to get this settled before any grandkids. (but I hope I don't get them soon... oldest is still only 17, too early!) Thank you! I'll be hitting 700 next year by the looks of things :D

  7. My husband of 52 years and I enjoy a simple Christmas, sharing time with friends and family, but spending the most precious time with each other. On a different note, your posts, charts, and enthusiasm for stitching have delighted me this year. Thank you for sharing all these with us. As a dedicated stitcher, I have enjoyed them immensely. May the remainder of the holidays, as well as the New Year, be bright and happy for you and your family. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

  12. What a generous gift! We celebrate Christmas with family. Christmas Eve starts with mass, then supper and gifts at my mother’s home. Then Christmas Day at our home for lunch and gifts with my mother, children, and grandchildren. We are in the process of moving this year, but we were able to get the new house hosting ready for Christmas even though we aren’t fully moved in. So Christmas Day was our first event in the new house and our first night to sleep over in it! Of the weather holds we should complete the move by New Year’s Day.

  14. We celebrate Christmas with family. We live about 2.5 hours away from everyone else, so Christmas Eve morning we drive to my moms house. Christmas Eve we have dinner at my parents house with my siblings, great grandma and uncles. We stay the night so we always have to pack up all of our gifts. Christmas Day is just us, (my parents, siblings/spouces and nieces and nephews). I’m the oldest of 5 so ‘just us’ is actually 14 people. We drive home after dinner on Christmas.

  16. We finally got the Christmas tree up, two days before Christmas! Christmas eve we went to church, then got a couple of hot chocolates and drove around looking at Christmas lights and decorations. They were beautiful this year. I sat up watching Dr. Who reruns and stitching until 2 AM. In my defense, it was one of my favorite Christmas specials. Christmas Day we went to Mom and Dad's and celebrated December birthdays and exchanged presents. After a knock down drag out game of Racko, it was time to warm the leftovers and head home. It was a very blessed and relaxing day. I finished two ornaments and started the last one for the year.

Thank you so much for all the free SALs. I'm looking forward to the NYE/NYD SAL.

Peace and hugs from Pennsylvania, USA.

    1. It sounds like the tree was planned for earlier but it was up on time so that's great! I am so glad the Christmas lights were beautiful where you are. You don't need excuses for Doctor Who - it's the Doctor!! And they didn't do a Christmas special this year so what's a person to do other than watch re-runs? It sounds like you had both good family time as well as good stitching time.. the best of both worlds!

On Christmas eve my children and I take my mother to mass where the children perform a nativity play. After mass we drive around looking at all the local Christmas light displays. On Christmas morning my children and I start the day with a glass of eggnog, followed by present opening and then we all go to mums for a traditional hot lunch followed by a refreshing swim to cool down from the Australian heat

We don't celebrate Christmas in the traditional sense at my house but because everyone around us is just celebrating by spending time with family and friends, we have always defacto celebrated with a quiet family day and big meal. We also play board games and drink warm beverages!

  19. I made Cornish Game Hens and Colcannon for Christmas supper this year as it was just my son, his friend Murph and I. I had my little tree up and decorated in my RV but my son did no decorating at all. For some reason there wasn't much "spirit" going on this year which is fine. We had a lovely time together and that's what means most to me. I did spent most of the day working on putting together my ornaments I'm making for my brother who lives on a 32 ft Grand Banks in Southeast Alaska. I chatted with my other adult children (they are all adults and have their own lives) which kind of rounded out the day for me.

I usually LOVE Halloween, but this year seemed as "meh" as Christmas! I'm no scrooge, nor am I NORMALLY poo pooing Halloween, but Halloween is usually my favorite as it kicks off the holiday season with all of it's garish colors and fun events. Check my stash and it is dominated by Halloween Patterns!

Thank you so much for the free patterns for all you do my sweet!

  20. Thank you Galdra for offering such a beautiful prize package. I hope you and your family enjoyed your Christmas. Christmas at our house was a jumble of emotions. This will likely be the last Christmas in our current home. We are planning to move closer to our daughter this spring/summer. The was the bitter sweet part. The delightful upshot was that both our children, their spouses, and our two new granddaughters made the trek home for one last Kootenay Christmas. Both granddaughters were experiencing their first Christmas and we were blessed to share that excitement with them. Lots of toys, love and hugs exchanged this Christmas. Best wishes to your family for a wonderful 2019!

  22. Yay 600! That exciting :) lovely prizes. As for christmas, my family normally does presents christmas morning while my husband's family does present christmas eve.

At my family, mom hides a pickle ornament in the tree christmas eve after everyone is in bed. Whoever finds it first christmas day gets to open a gift first. We take turns opening one gift until they are all done.

Husband's family does a secret santa - so we only buy gifts for that person. Only exception is the little ones. Everyone gets them a gift or two.

  23. 600 posts - I am not surprised, with how busy you've been those last few days and all year, really!
As almost every year, we spent Christmas Eve at my grandparents' house (mum and my godparents came by in the afternoon, in the evening it was just Felix, grandparents and me) and as you might know (I might have mentioned it once or twice...) that's the 'proper' Christmas here in Germany. On the 25th, we drove up to Felix' parents, and his grandma had her annual big family gathering of all her kids and grandkids. And on the 26th, we celebrated with friends, chilli, Feuerzangenbowle und 'It's a wonderful life' :D

    I don't celebrate Christmas..
BUT the most favorite day in the year for me would be Vishnu Karthigai. Second day of Karthigai festival.
    The festival is 3 days.
We celebrate by lighting small terracotta lamps.. Or diyas and placing it all around the home.
It denotes the win of goodness over evil. Winning of light over darkness.. And also Karthikai month is the onset of winter in our part if country.. It is usually from November 15 to December 15.
And yes.. We don't follow Gregorian calendar.. Ours is solar and lunar Calender's.. Our family follows solar calendar..:)
I may not win this giveaway.. But I should appreciate your gesture.. For bringing smile to many.. Who might be at a not so favourable moments of life..
Hope god give you strength to spread goodness even more in coming years..
    Happy new year

  40. Hope you had a great Christmas. We celebrate by going to our daughters for dinner and taking gifts to our many grandchildren. My very favorite day of the year is the first day of spring which will fall on March 20 this coming year. Spring is my favorite season, so the first day is a happy day for me.

  41. The true gifts given here is hosting such a wonderful group of stitches and the beautiful designs. This Christmas, I hosted my mom's family...we did a white elephant gift exchange where all gifts were not purchased - you had to wrap something you wanted to get rid of out of your house. I wrapped some hideous figurines from my childhood and received some silicone basting brushes. Hope your 2019 is fabulous!!

    1. I'm glad you enjoy my designs! That sounds like a fun gift exchange - and you got something useful instead of the hideous figurines so that sounds like a win/win situation to me!

Christmas is shaping up to be a pattern. My in-laws are passed away, but we hosted my husband's family a few days before Christmas. None of us live in the same town, but we a centrally located in North Florida. Then for Christmas Eve, we stayed home because Santa can only find our daughter at our house. On Christmas morning, after the gift giving, we drove over to my sister's house in a different city to have Christmas with my family. She has a lot of children to our one, and my dad is in a nursing home near her. It is nice to be able to see all the family on both sides at Christmas time.

  43. I do celebrate Christmas, but this year I chose not to. The past 3 years have been very difficult; my sister passed away from breast (2015), my mother last year & and now my father is in the hospital. My heart is still grieving with loss, I am sorry for sounding so sad.
My husband made a lovely dinner, no turkey! He roasted a tasty prime rib, it was delicious......My favourite day, of every year is the month of Jan. The day my son was born; he is my miracle baby!!

    1. I can certainly see why you'd not want to celebrate this year, loosing close family is rough and at Christmas the loss is even more apparent - I lost my brother this year and my dad in 1999 so I know how you feel. Roasted prime rib sounds amazing! I can see why your son's birthday would be your favourite day :D

  44. I think I may be in the nick of time! Congrats on 600! This year my family were far flung. Only my sister was nearby. After church she bought a ham over (it was fun trying to figure that out because neither of us had cooked one before, and all the recipes seemed Byzantine and took 4 hours. No way are we spending Xmas day in a kitchen for 4hours). We ate (and even though the table wasn’t groaning under it’s own weight, it was strangely still enough to induce food comas). We were going to go to the beach, but the verandah and the breeze lulled us all afternoon so we didn’t. Giving presents was really fun this year, watching people open theirs really filled me up.

    1. You had a good hour before the cut off so are safe! Thank you! It's a pity most of the family were too far away this year, but it's good your sister was there. I don't stay i the kitchen for the entire roasting time - I put it in the oven and walk away for a bit - best way to cook in my opinion hehe. Sometimes less is more food wise - and you end up with less leftovers too! I'd say after such a dinner the veranda is just about the right distance! It sounds like a good day all round to me!

  45. I always celebrate Christmas with my children and grandchildren, but sometimes like this year on another date due to work commitments ( I work in a hospital). We always have pizza and antipasto for the teenagers: it is an easy meal for adults, too.

    1. For those of you that do important work having things like Christmas on another day is a side effect but I'm glad there are people who do it! Thank you! That does indeed sound like an easy dinner.. I don't think my kids would approve though hehe,
