Friday Freebie: 25 x 25 for 2019 - February

Welcome to the second of the 25 x 25 for 2019 patterns! This month I went for a tiny overall pattern - I hope you like it and have fun with either by using the colours I set or by using your own colours! I swapped the red and yellow around on the back of my biscornu.

I loved the fabric I used for the 50 x 50 so much that I used it again! It's Jodyri Designs April 2016 Limited Edition 18ct Aida "Cairns Birdwing Butterfly".

For threads I used Ruby Slippers (023R), Honeysuckle (017A), and Hedge Maze (018A).

Here it is in its mini biscornu size - it's tiny compared to last month's pattern stitched on 14ct Aida!

As you can see here. So that's how much difference it makes when you change fabric count.

Last month somebody was a bit frustrated that the corners of the biscornu were all wonky when done the way biscornu usually are - and that's because the pattern is an odd number of stitches. There is a fix - it was difficult to do on the 18ct for the first time but I'm sure it gets better with practice. I'll do a full tutorial soon - my fiancé is home for a bit from his work abroad so I'm spending a bit more time with him.

The short version:

• Start as usual on the centre stitch and the corner stitch as you would for any biscornu. 
• Whip stitch till you get to the next corner - make sure that the centre stitch is lined up with the corner.
• Put a whip stitch into that centre stitch and the corner stitch
• Fold the fabric to go round the corner
• The whip stitch will now go into the central stitch a second time - and through the next stitch along on the corner side (that would be the first stitch on the next side)
• Continue in this way for every corner and you will have perfect corners like the one you see above. 

It's not something I managed to do right the first time round so some of the corners on the biscornu above are still slightly off - practice makes perfect they say so I'll need more practice... and perhaps a bigger project *wink*
