Surprise Freebies: Remembrance Day Poppies

This year to commemorate Remembrance Day I have designed two poppy patterns. The plan was to only make one but I ended up with two and decided to share both. The first you can see above is a simple poppy wreath shape with the 11 NOV backstitched.

The second is quite a bit bigger and far, far more complicated. I started with a photo by Greiss Design which I found on Deviant Art. I was planning on making a simple pattern but this photo just didn't want to be simple - or small! The resulting pattern is 100 stitches wide and 309 stitches tall - its full coverage and full cross stitch only. It uses 165 colours, some of which you only need for a single stitch, but tinkering showed that reducing the number also made the pattern look less real so I undid what I'd edited and left it as is.

As the pattern is so big and has so many symbols I decided make the number of stitches on a page 40 wide x 56 high, with an overlap of five stitches as I personally find it easier to match things up if you have more lines to match up with. The pattern covers 18 pages as a result, there are then three pages for the key and a small informational bit.

I hope you enjoy the patterns!

    1. It *could* be done as a quilt project - with 1 or 1 1/2' squares/trips :D Thank you for that :D
