Welcome to the eighth edition of the Fob a Month for 2018! This month I was inspired by poppies! I adore poppies in all the colours they come in but for this month I decided to go with the common wild poppy here in Europe. The bright red with black centres is so distinctive and cheerful.

Friday Freebie: Ornament of the Month - August

Welcome back for the eighth Ornament of the Month! The sun wants to turn us all into human fricassee or something by the feel of things - it's still roasting hot! As I'm writing this it's almost 6:30 pm and it's a toasty 33C/91.5 f ! I'm not getting much stitching done as a result - my needle keeps slipping between my rather sweaty fingers - not nice! I am so glad I got a fan to help cool things a bit (but sadly not enough to stitch as much as I'd like).

Friday Freebie: Four Tiny Squares

Happy Friday! Hopefully you are not being cooked alive by the heat waves that are happening all over the world but are able to keep more or less cool. This week I went tiny with my patterns as I thought that something you can do quickly might be nicer when it's almost too hot to hold a needle.

Weavers Tapestry Band Sampler SAL: Part 30

Welcome back for part 30 of the Weavers Tapestry Band Sampler SAL! This week I'm back from holiday so things should return to their normal state of things with the patterns being up shortly after this post. I had a good holiday eventually though getting away was a bit more difficult than anticipated as my flight was cancelled, and the replacement flight I got 2 days later was also cancelled! This time it was due to a bomb threat! Fortunately no bombs were actually found but it did stop all airport traffic for hours and meant the flight was rescheduled for the next day. I've had my excitement for the year... I much prefer boredom.

When I saw that the Stibbe Roman mosaics were being shown to the public I couldn't resist making a pattern based on part of one of the borders and transferring the second border in its entirety into cross stitch. Welcome back for part 29 of the Weavers Tapestry Band Sampler SAL! This week you get the seventh band! As an experiment I have included the whole of band seven in the image below but blurred out the bit you are not getting this week in an attempt to stop people stitching too far ahead while looking at the picture (it's been done *sigh*). This will hopefully let people who like to pick colours to see what is happening so they don't have to wait till the end of the month to stitch.

The good news is that we are starting band six today! It's just a two week band so we will soon be off stitching band seven.

Friday Freebie: Ornamental Symmetry

This week I was in the mood to use greys for the pattern - nice cool colours to offset the heat of the day as it's been pretty hot here lately and it looks like the heat is here to stay for a bit too! I added the blue as it needed a little colour and this one seemed to fit the bill of being a nice cool colour.

Friday Freebie: French Checkerboard

The other day I saw a tweet by S Mooers Christelow and fell in love with the background, as I often do with medieval manuscripts. This one had some brownish squares but when I looked closely they looked like they had once been gilded so I decided to treat them as that and picked yellow instead of the brown for the pattern.

Welcome back for part 25 of the Weavers Tapestry Band Sampler SAL! This week the start of the second half has arrived! Not everyone will be at this place - I know I'm not hehe. I'm still several weeks behind and have only done a few stitches this week but at least I have done some stitches - that's more than I've done in the last couple of weeks. That's life for you! Sometimes you are just too busy and tired to stitch.
