Friday Freebie: French Checkerboard

The other day I saw a tweet by S Mooers Christelow and fell in love with the background, as I often do with medieval manuscripts. This one had some brownish squares but when I looked closely they looked like they had once been gilded so I decided to treat them as that and picked yellow instead of the brown for the pattern.

Naturally you could decide to use a gold thread for this - I'd suggest Kreinik #4 Very Fine Braid 002 or 002HL for this as it's a nice bright gold which will really sparkle!

Of course you want to know which image it was so here is the tweet in all it's glory!

You can download the pattern here

See you Tuesday with the 26th section of the Weavers Tapestry Band Sampler SAL - when you will get the last part of the fifth band!

  1. I love your manuscript based designs. You always manage to hit that perfect mix of traditional and modern :)

    1. Thank you! I'm so glad you like them! I just love how the old manuscript backgrounds are just so "now" with the style etc. and I'm not sure everyone notices that.
