Friday Freebie: Stibbe Roman Mosaic Borders

Most of you will know by now that I love historical patterns - especially Roman mosaics. When I saw that the Stibbe Roman mosaics were being shown to the public I couldn't resist making a pattern based on part of one of the borders and transferring the second border in its entirety into cross stitch. Welcome back for part 29 of the Weavers Tapestry Band Sampler SAL! This week you get the seventh band! As an experiment I have included the whole of band seven in the image below but blurred out the bit you are not getting this week in an attempt to stop people stitching too far ahead while looking at the picture (it's been done *sigh*). Friday Freebie: Ornamental Symmetry

This week I was in the mood to use greys for the pattern - nice cool colours to offset the heat of the day as it's been pretty hot here lately and it looks like the heat is here to stay for a bit too! I added the blue as it needed a little colour and this one seemed to fit the bill of being a nice cool colour.

Friday Freebie: French Checkerboard

The other day I saw a tweet by S Mooers Christelow and fell in love with the background, as I often do with medieval manuscripts. This one had some brownish squares but when I looked closely they looked like they had once been gilded so I decided to treat them as that and picked yellow instead of the brown for the pattern.

Welcome back for part 25 of the Weavers Tapestry Band Sampler SAL! This week the start of the second half has arrived! Not everyone will be at this place - I know I'm not hehe. I'm still several weeks behind and have only done a few stitches this week but at least I have done some stitches - that's more than I've done in the last couple of weeks. That's life for you!
