Sampler SAL - Page 1 - Week 3

Welcome to the third part of the Sampler SAL! This time we are going to continue with the first page. This week we are going to make stitches made up of a single simple stitch that together make something else: eyelets! The stitch is often referred to as the Algerian eyelet stitch and has several other names (as often happens with needlework stitches) I'm calling them eyelets for short. The base of all eyelets is a single stitch though they might look more complicated than that if you are unfamiliar with them. This week there are two versions of the pattern — the main pattern and a pattern with extra eyelets in case you wish to do some more to practice or because they are fun!
This is what the main pattern looks like once the eyelets are done. Even though they look different, they are ALL done in the same way — just from different positions. I started with the small eyelets at the top right and have made a picture tutorial to make things simpler for you. If you prefer a video then have a look here. I'm afraid a few of the pictures are a bit out of focus but not so much that you can't see what's going on. It's the downside of enlarging a small section of a large photo that looked in focus enough at the time it was taken.

Not very imaginative texts, but then it does describe what you need to do and that's the important bit. If anything isn't clear, please let me know! I can't help if I don't know you need it. *wink*

Once you have done that eyelet then do the rest of them — make sure that as you go from one to the other that the thread doesn't cover the hole on the back. Sometimes you need to slide the needle behind a couple of stitches on the back to make the thread go round the hole.

There is no strict order in which to do them so follow the way the thread wants to go!

You can find the pattern here.
You can find the pattern with extra eyelets here.

Note: Next week I'll make sure to post two patterns again so that if you HAVE done the extra eyelets the pattern will look the same as your stitching.

That's all for this week! Have fun and don't forget to show us your stitching results in the Facebook group!

  1. Oh, I love eyelets! I might end up doing the extras.

    1. Eyelets are fun! Now that I've finished the basic stitching for week 4 I can go back and do the extra's — I didn't want anyone to feel they *had* to do the extras if they didn't want to.
