May the Fourth Be with You

To be honest I wasn't sure I'd make this post when I woke up this morning - I'd wanted to celebrate Star Wars Day and been planning something before I heard of the death of Peter Mayhew and the embryo of an idea went out of the window.


I met Peter a couple of years ago at the London Comic Con. He'd just sat down at the tables for autographs after lunch and there was no queue for him - much to my surprise. My bf (now fiancé) dragged me over to meet him before I'd worked myself up to do it, so I was a bit lost for words and feeling very awkward. He was lovely. I shook his hand and said thank you for all the wonderful hours my kids and I had had watching the films, and remarked how huge his hands were compared to my small hands - he was still holding my hand and didn't let go till we'd finished chatting.

I'm glad I was dragged over while it was quiet and grateful Peter took the time to speak to us. I'm just sad that I won't get a chance to drag my kids over to meet him as well. I hope Peter is having a good time with Carrie Fisher and Kenny Baker (The original R2-D2 actor), may they all rest in peace.

The pattern I created is one of rows of Chewbacca's bandolier straps - I'm not really one to do "people" (Wookiees are people too!) and felt that his iconic bandolier would be perfect for a pattern. I did them straight instead of angled as they looked more like bones than anything which wasn't quite right. The fix could have been a gazillion partial stitches but I don't like doing them much so "only" have eight partial stitches per strap to make the circle circular.

If you are a bookmark fan and don't mind a long skinny bookmark then download the bookmark pattern instead. If you want the metal parts to be shiny try using Kreinik braid (#4 or #8 depending on your preference and fabric count) 025 or DMC Light Effects E415 or E317.
